This page is all about reflexology; Its history, how it can help and the treatment I offer.
"Your feet walk upon the earth and through this your spirit is connected to the universe. Our feet are our contact with the earth and the energies that flow through it"
The earliest documented use of reflexology was in Egypt. Early Egyptian artists observed and recorded scenes of the medical practices of the times. In 1979 an ancient Egyptian papyrus scene was discovered which depicted medical practitioners treating the hands and feet of their patients in around 2,500 BC.
During the late 14th Century in Europe a form of 'zone therapy' was developed. Dr William Fitzgerald discovered zone therapy as practised by the red Indians. North American Indians used pressure to the feet as a source of healing. The studies of Dr Fitzgerald saw the arrival of the development and practice of reflexology in the U.S. he found that pressure in the nose, throat, mouth, tongue, hands, feet, joints etc., deadened definite areas of sensation and relieved pain, this in turn led to the discovery of Zone Therapy.
How reflexology can help
"Reflexology can be used to help restore and maintain the body's natural equilibrium"
Reflexology can be a wonderfully relaxing experience where you can take time out from everyday pressures. The therapist's touch will help you to relax which can help improve mood, aid sleep and relieve tension. The result is an overall sense of wellbeing.
Reflexology is a complementary therapy that supports people through illnesses and in turn offers:
Release of tension
Increase in well being
"With ever-increasing levels of stress, it is important that people take more responsibility for their own healthcare needs"
I am a mobile practitioner and as such can provide you with your treatment of Reflexology in the comfort of your own environment. Enough space is required as I will bring a portable Reflexology Lafuma Chair and stool which is required for the treatment, alternatively the treatment may be carried out on your armchair or sofa.
Your first treatment will include a preliminary chat which enables Angela to record information on your past and current health, medications and lifestyle. Please allow a little longer for your first appointment as this fact-find provides the basis for all subsequent treatments.
Prior to the treatment and after having removed your shoes and socks I will inspect your feet to ascertain their general health and also check for anything contagious, e.g., verrucas, athletes foot etc. (This can be covered up!)
Using my hands I will then apply pressure with my thumbs and fingers to your feet, the application and the effect of the therapy are unique to each person. The treatment will normally last for around 1 hour.
